El poder en la Edad Media, como en otros periodos de la Historia, sufrió múltiples transformaciones, pasando a menudo desde el plano teórico a uno más tangible en donde no siempre concordaron las ideas y su ejecución. Monarquía y episcopado, papado e Imperio, tradición e innovación, o diplomacia, negociación y hostilidad, fueron ejes sobre los que pivotó la autoridad medieval hispánica. Desde el siglo V hasta los albores del XVI, el presente volumen coral aborda la cultura política peninsular ibérica en el Medievo, atendiendo particularmente a la proyección ideológica del poder, su ejercicio práctico y el marco de relaciones, tanto interiores, como con otros reinos y entidades del periodo.
Power in the Middle Ages, as in other periods of History, underwent multiple transformations, often shifting from the theoretical to the more tangible, where ideas and their execution did not always coincide. Monarchy and Episcopate, Papacy and Empire, tradition and innovation, or diplomacy, negotiation, and hostility were the axes around which medieval Spanish authority pivoted. From the 5th century to the dawn of the 16th, this choral volumen addresses the political culture of the Iberian Peninsula in the Middle Ages, paying particular attention to the ideological projection of power, its practical exercise, and the framework of relations, both internal and with other kingdoms and entities of the period.
